Every woman has a natural, individualized ratio of estrogen and progesterone that surges and recedes to make up her unique menstual cycle. PMS symptoms that appear right before your period are are often a result of a disequelibrium of this progesterone/estrogen balance. In some women, estrogen levels may be slightly high while progesterone levels are adequate; in others, estrogen levels may be normal but progesterone levels are deficient. PMS symptoms can simply occur if progesterone levels are lower than your body requires.
Herbal sources of progesterone such as passionflower, Chaste Tree Berry, Ashwagandha and wild yam may alleviate your PMS symptoms.
